Annual Report from the Chair – August 24th, 2017

It is with great pleasure that I bring forward my report for 2016-17. As we look back at the many challenges we’ve had to face over the past year – we have weathered a storm. From the year of working with the LHIN, GBGH and Lett Architects – we have gone through a very difficult transition period. Never knowing if the decisions we made were the best with the information at hand; we never gave up. Our work is not for the faint of heart.

I think of the many volunteer hours spent by the Board on governance, communications, operations and last but not least fundraising. They have spent a staggering number of hours to get it right and they did. Our challenge this year is to raise our stats. This is also what we are all about. We can never forget our past and what brought us to this point. With the addition of Cathy Greer, our new Executive Director and Joann Warren as Fund Developer, we now have a team which will be a tremendous asset moving forward.

Another sign of our growth as an organization is the addition of Trish Monague to our team. She will help us to properly address the needs of Indigenous community.

Our plan with Lett Architect did not come to fruition, but another opportunity arose. A presentation by Steenhoff Group steered us in a different direction. We now look to the possibility of a donation of land in the Penetanguishene area and the building of stand-alone hospice.

As we proceed towards our goal of a five bed residential hospice, we will need to be relentless in our fundraising efforts. Our campaign goal is $2,185,000. I strongly believe, that working together, we can accomplish this.

I thank you for your commitment and your passion towards hospice.

Respectfully submitted,

Anne Murphy
