A
hospice is not a place; it is a concept of a place. Our objective
is to care for the emotional and spiritual needs of those living
with a life-threatening illness and their families.
When physical, emotional and spiritual needs are met, lifes
journey, even the end-of-life journey, can be a rich experience
that brings meaning and completeness.
In the Middle Ages a hospice was a resting place for travellers
on a difficult journey. For the person facing a life-threatening
illness and/or grief, there is no journey more difficult. The modern
hospice movement was founded by Dr. Cicely Saunders at St. Lukes
Hospital, England in 1948. The focus of this new direction is a
better understanding of the quality of life for those living with
life-threatening illness and their families.
